Fast Food Icon and Host of the Krystal Square-Off National Hamburger Eating Contest Improves Employee Productivity, Customer Service and Food Preparation Through Innovative e-Learning Software
VICTORIA, BC -- (Marketwire) -- 09/24/08 -- Udutu (www.udutu.com), a provider of web-based e-learning software and services, today announced that the Krystal Company has standardized all of its corporate employee training programs on the MyUdutu web-based platform. The Chattanooga, TN-based fast food chain famous for its fresh, hot, small, square hamburgers and the annual "Krystal Square Off World Hamburger Eating Contest" has significantly improved operating efficiencies and cut training time and costs through Udutu's advanced e-learning solutions.
Made available through its online Krystal Kollege, Krystal offers about 50 different service, production and management training courses required for crew members, store managers and corporate management. The various courses educate Krystal employees on everything from fundamental operating procedures such as how to operate a cash register, how to prepare different types of food, and how to provide optimal customer service, to the intricate details of restaurant management.
The use of Udutu's e-learning course authoring software has improved customer service and employee productivity, while also reducing the amount of additional mandatory On the Job Training (OJT) employees need to meet Krystal's standards for job performance.
"Working with Udutu offers many advantages we wouldn't otherwise have, such as complete control over how the training courses are designed and developed, and a much faster timeline for creating a course and making it available through Krystal Kollege," said Robert Craigo, director of training for The Krystal Company. "With our heavy emphasis on quick, efficient and courteous service and our high standards for preparing quality, tasty food, the Udutu e-learning tool has proven to be a huge asset. It makes employee training a much less costly, time-intensive process, and also makes learning fun for our employees and has improved how quickly they're able to get certified and start doing their jobs."
Udutu Provides Helping Hand for Krystal Square Off
Working with Udutu has also benefited Krystal with its annual "Square Off" World Championship Hamburger Eating Contest -- a major event that draws on the company's elite food production employees to prepare and serve up the hundreds of fresh, hot burgers, or "Krystals," for the many competing gastronomical contestants. With this year's final event taking place September 28 in Chattanooga, Krystal is working to select the top food-preparation performers at its home location who will cook the burgers for the championship -- a privilege most employees are eager to be granted.
"It is truly an honor to be selected for this team and only our top performers are considered," said Craigo. "Our crew members take pride in preparing the burgers that have earned our company such a great reputation throughout the southeast U.S., and being part of the media blitz around this nationally renowned event is quite exciting for them. The Udutu-powered training courses certainly deserve some of the credit for helping employees hone these skills and demonstrate them on a national stage."
Udutu: Removing Barriers to Formal Learning
Udutu makes access to formal web-based learning more widely available to users across an organization, regardless of company or department size or budget. While existing course development products are inaccessible to most organizations due to high cost and implementation complexities, Udutu's course authoring software -- MyUdutu -- is a purely hosted, web-based tool that removes the barriers to e-learning with an affordable solution that requires no local software installation or management. Additionally, unlike other online training offerings which require extensive technical expertise for creating the courseware, MyUdutu is a user-friendly tool designed for subject matter experts rather than technical experts. Its ease-of-use means courses can be developed in roughly half the time required for other e-learning products.
Through the Udutu platform and Krystal Kollege, Krystal offers employees interactive learning through video content, animation and audio features to facilitate faster, more effective training. Each training module includes several short sections that cover various tasks related to each aspect of the job and which are followed by interactive assessments to test their knowledge of the preceding course material. If the individual doesn't get the answers right the first time, they're asked to try again until they do get it right, ensuring that the learning takes place. MyUdutu enables Krystal's corporate training and development team to track employees' progress and make sure they're meeting expected benchmarks in the time required.
"E-learning has been around for several years, but there are many hurdles to adoption that have prevented the technology from becoming as ubiquitous as it should be," said Roger Mundell, founder and CEO of Udutu. "Existing products consist of complex, costly software packages that limit usage to a small group of individuals in an organization and which require technical and multimedia experts to create course material. We've taken significant steps to address these issues and provide a tool that makes e-learning an easy, effective way for companies like Krystal to improve training and productivity, while also fostering a more engaging and interactive approach to employee learning."
"If it weren't for Udutu, we'd still be relying on videotapes for employee instruction, which is just not effective," said Craigo. "Not only can we ensure our employees are learning what they need to in a relatively short timeframe, we're also able to create new courses to coincide with special events and promotions much faster than we would with other tools."
