About the Series: The Century Foundation is a progressive nonpartisan think tank. Originally known as the Twentieth Century Fund, it was founded in 1919 and initially endowed by Edward Filene, a leading Republican businessman and champion of fair workplaces and employee ownership strategies, with an eye to ensuring that economic opportunity is available to all. Filenes ideas and ideals, as expressed through speeches and articles, were collected in the book, Speaking of Change, which was published in 1938, after his death, as a tribute to him and his progressive vision. This forum series, by the same name, examines todays pressing policy issues related to equity and opportunity.
