Charlotte, North Carolina (PRWEB) April 26, 2012
For the tenth consecutive year, The Law Offices of Michael A. DeMayo L.L.P. is presenting its Arrive Alive! Dont Drink and Drive community outreach program to area high schools to help reduce tragedies related to underage drinking and driving.
Arrive Alive is targeted to area high school juniors and seniors who often face the decision of underage drinking and driving, which is more prevalent during times of celebration such as spring break, prom and graduation. The program kicks off April 30 at West Iredell High School and will include 8 more presentations at other high schools next week.
During the presentation, Attorney Michael A. DeMayo will share stories and photos of deadly drunk driving accidents, including the loss of numerous teenagers injured or killed as a result of drinking and driving.
Our office deals with alcohol-related accidents on almost a daily basis and it is our goal to prevent even one tragic accident from occurring with our program, DeMayo said. We want teenagers to see the reality of the severe consequences that can result from one bad decision, and hope to help them make smarter decisions that will save their lives.
Also this year, guest speaker Karl Kakadelis, 27, will discuss the devastating effects that an alcohol-related accident had on his life. When Karl was 19 years old he threw a graduation party, where he drank multiple beers. He and his best friend left in Karls jeep to go pick up another friend who was about a mile away. On the way there, Karl ran off the road, overcorrected, and flipped his jeep. His friend, Wayne, was thrown from the jeep and died several days later from his injuries. The presentation will detail what happened to Karl, not only that night, but in the months and years that followed the drinking and driving accident in which he killed his best friend.
Arrive Alive is held in conjunction with the annual Michael A. DeMayo Scholarship Program, which awards fifteen high school seniors $2,500 scholarships towards their college education. The students compete for scholarships based on their community involvement, grades, SAT scores and a presentation (video, PowerPoint, brochure, website or essay) that they create to encourage fellow students to abstain from underage drinking and driving and to highlight the dangers of drinking and driving.
