Knoxville, TN (PRWEB) June 29, 2012
Jewelry Television® (JTV), the worlds authority on gemstones, will commemorate the 45th anniversary of the discovery of Tanzanite from July 5 through 8 with a special on-air celebration.
One of the worlds rarest gemstones, Tanzanite will take center stage during this four-day event as JTV showcases stones from both the Signature Vault and Heirloom Vault collections as well as a variety of exclusive jewelry pieces.
Since it was first discovered 45 years ago in Tanzania, Tanzanite has become one of the most desirable gemstones, for collectors and jewelry lovers alike, said by Tom Ahles, director of gemstone merchandise planning at JTV. Because of its rarity, both geographically and gemologically, and its extraordinary beauty, Tanzanite has gained popularity, but deposits wont last forever. This is why JTV is so pleased to bring our customers such a diverse offering of options so they can take advantage of the opportunity to add such a precious gemstone to their collections.
One thousand times rarer than diamonds, Tanzanite is found in only one place on earth, the Merelani Hills surrounding Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, East Africa. Geological research shows that the chance of Tanzanite occurring outside the current four square kilometer production area is less than a million to one. Additionally, there is only an estimated 30 years of supply remaining in the mines, which also contributes to the stones rarity.
During the Tanzanite 45th anniversary event, JTV will present pieces from its Vault collections, all of which are sorted, graded and inspected before being cut, polished and sent to an independent lab for certification and laser inscription. During the laser inscription process, a unique serial number is laser inscribed on the girdle of each stone as a permanent identification for security purposes.
JTV will feature several of its exclusive Tanzanite collections, including Kianga, getting its name from the Swahili word meaning burst of light, Kutamani, the Swahili word for aspire, and Merelani Tribute, gemstones cut to exhibit intricate inner star patterns. Additionally featured will be pieces from the Katzenberg Signature Collection, all polished to a mirror-like surface and hand fashioned by world-renowned master lapidary Shlomo Katzenberg.
JTVs 45th anniversary event will showcase Tanzanite set in gold as well as silver in every jewelry variety, including rings, necklaces and pendants, earrings and bracelets.
JTVs Tanzanite 45th anniversary event brings the most desirable gemstones and jewelry directly to our customers, said Ahles. We recognize that our customers have different tastes and styles, but we feel confident that our Tanzanite selection will be well received as it has something for everyone.
